What is the difference between the Half Day Kitchen Knife Class and Full Day Forging Class?
Our Half Day Kitchen Knife Class starts off with a pre-profiled carbon steel blade. There are three styles to choose from. You will be able to design the shape of your handle to suit your hand. Grinding, sanding, quenching and assembly are still required. Home made morning tea is included.
Our Full Day Forging Class starts with a blank piece of steel for which you forge in the coals. There are many techniques and input in this class from forging, shaping, grinding, sanding, quenching, bolsters, design, cut and shaping of the handle to suit your hand. This class includes morning tea's and a good old homemade lunch!
Can I design my own knife?
Yes. Up to 250mm long total. Only in the Full Day Forging Class (Not the Half Day Kitchen making Class).
Can I bring my own wood for my handle?
Yes. Must be cut to 120mm Long x 50mm Wide x 16mm Thick x 2 pieces. Grain to go lengthways - No end cuts. Only in the Full Day Forging Class (Not the Half Day Kitchen making Class). A great way to put a piece of sentimental piece of wood to use!
If I cannot get a person to come with me can I participate in another class?
We do have a singles list but there can be a long wait (it can be like herding kittens!). We recommend you find a person to join you as it is a really fun and personable day!
Can I bring a friend or family member to watch?
No. For safety reasons there is strictly NO spectators. This course is for participants ONLY
Can an under 18 years old participate with a parent or guardian?
No. We are strictly 18 year old + as it becomes a safety issue. No exceptions sorry
Can I get my knife through customs?
Yes. Declare it to customs. Pack securely into your checked in luggage (NOT carry on!). We will give you a business card and send you away with a sturdy robust sheath
